Shutdown's effect on Army is significant, Odierno says

The budget impasse that has ground the government to a halt is significantly affecting the U.S. Army's day-to-day operations, according to Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno. "The longer it goes on, the worse it gets. Every day that goes by, we are losing manpower, we are losing capability, so in my mind it is important we get this resolved," he said. Odierno is hoping for more than a short-term fix. "I need predictability," he said.
