Unresolved U.S. debt mess unsettles European, U.S. markets

The extended U.S. debt impasse was a cause of deepening concern Thursday in markets on both sides of the Atlantic, sending shares lower. "I think probably at the beginning of the week people didn't think it would take so long to sort out. The fact that it's dragged on is making people a little bit nervous," said David Jones, chief market strategist at IG Markets in London.
