Verizon exec: Moving to IP voice means navigating interconnection

The biggest challenge of transitioning the public switched telephone network to an all-IP infrastructure will be ensuring smooth interconnectivity among disparate service providers, industry experts say. According to Maggie McCready, executive director for public policy at Verizon, IP interconnection will not only require resolving physical exchange issues involving state regulators, but also raise questions of pricing transparency with potentially reluctant Tier 1 carriers.
