White House huddle fails to break shutdown deadlock

President Barack Obama gathered top lawmakers from both parties in the White House on Wednesday night in a bid to thrash out a deal to end the government shutdown -- but the huddle ended without progress being made. Republicans remain committed to their strategy to defund the Affordable Care Act, and Democrats remain unwilling to allow governmental funding to be used as a bargaining chip. "They will not negotiate," said House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio.
