New York City teachers, local officials reach pay deal

A proposed deal between the New York City teachers union and the city would give teachers mostly retroactive pay raises of 14.25% over 52 months, increase tutoring time by 50 minutes each week, add two class days to the school year and change some rules on seniority-based staffing decisions. Both sides applauded the agreement, which will cost $350 million more than had been budgeted this fiscal year.
