Florida commits to first phase of high-speed rail

The Florida Department of Transportation committed to building high-speed rail in the state, as long as it receives $2.53 billion in stimulus funds for the project. The high-speed rail line would connect Miami to Tampa, with the first phase between Tampa and Orlando planned at a cost of $2.5 billion. Walt Disney World plans to donate as much as 50 acres of land for a station in Orlando.
