Sen. David Vitter, R-La., said he is concerned that the Department of the Interior will halt offshore development even after deepwater drilling is allowed to resume. "The even bigger question is: Are we going to have a de facto moratorium on an ongoing basis for many more months to come?" he said in an interview with Fox News. Vitter and other regional lawmakers criticized the delay in the issuance of shallow-water drilling permits, saying it is damaging the Gulf Coast.
