ONC moves to overcome de-identified data-security risks

National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Dr. David Blumenthal said his office is investigating ways to address security issues that might arise from using de-identified patient records to study population health. ONC is seeking a "consensus on what risk we can tolerate for identification and ... what kinds of removal of information, are required to get to that level of risk," he said.
