Wrigley gets OK on xylitol health claim

Wrigley has won permission from the European Food Safety Authority to make the health claim that sugar-free chewing gum containing xylitol can reduce tooth decay. The panel said the positive results would be achieved by chewing 2 to 3 grams of gum after meals for at least 20 minutes, and said "quantity and pattern of use of chewing gum can easily be included within a balanced diet."
