Congress, White House can do more to aid economy, Bernanke says

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told lawmakers that immediate spending cuts or tax hikes could stall the economy, and that they and the Obama administration must focus more on labor, housing, trade, taxes and regulation to aid economic recovery. "Monetary policy can be a powerful tool, but it is not a panacea for the problems currently faced by the U.S. economy," Bernanke said.
