Men are at risk for diabetes at lower BMI than women

Mean body mass index at diagnosis for type 2 diabetes was 31.83 in men, but 33.69 in women, with a bigger difference in younger adults, according to a study of 51,920 men and 43,137 women in Scotland with diabetes. Experts said fat distribution may play a role, as men tend to store more fat around the stomach and liver.
