According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the number of registered nurses is expected to grow 26%, an increase of approximately 712,000 nurses, from 2010 to 2020. The BLS cites the following reasons for growth in the profession: technological advances that mean a greater number of conditions can be treated, a growing focus on disease prevention, and the aging cohort of baby boomers.
