How could MOOCs benefit community colleges?

Massive open online courses -- or MOOCs -- could help community colleges become more efficient, suggests Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. Speaking at the Association of Community College Trustees' leadership meeting this week, Gates said a "flipped" model, in which students spend more time working online and at home, would free up space for more students and allow for more personalized instruction in the classroom. "I'd be the first to say this is a period of experimentation, but we'll learn much faster if people jump in and engage," Gates said.
