Pacific trade agreement will put U.S. food safety at risk, lawmaker says

The Trans-Pacific Partnership deal would undermine American food safety, warned Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn. The lawmaker is worried that the poor food safety rules in some countries involved in the negotiations could endanger Americans, and that food safety would be jeopardized further by a process backed by the U.S. Trade Representative. "This deal will lead to an influx of seafood imports from Asia, and we should therefore enhance funding for food safety at the FDA," DeLauro said.
