Mental health disorders and creativity are connected, but subtly so, writes Scott Barry Kaufman. Both creative people and the mentally ill likely have neurological quirks that allow them to rapidly ideate and make novel connections, but creative people also have protective traits, such as enhanced cognition and memory, that allow them to harness their ideas rather than being consumed by them.
