Retail vacancies edge downward, Reis reports

Large retail centers' vacancy rate declined in the third quarter to 8.2% from 8.3% in the previous quarter, according to Reis Inc., which tracks the 77 top U.S. markets. Retail vacancy was 8.7% in the third quarter of 2012. The average national vacancy rate for neighborhood and community shopping centers remained the same quarter-over-quarter at 10.5%, but was down from 10.8% in the third quarter of last year.
