Shutdown creates public health, practice concerns for physicians

The government shutdown has affected the CDC's flu vaccination program, NIH funding for clinical trials, government funding for residency programs, and food and drug inspections, raising public health concerns among physician groups. AAFP President Reid Blackwelder, M.D., said Academy members also have expressed anxiety over Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements, and he is worried the shutdown may reduce the chances of repealing and replacing Medicare's sustainable growth rate formula.
