What to do if a new employee just can't cut it

Most new employees will take a while to get up to speed, but you should act quickly if it becomes clear that they simply aren't right for the job, writes Christy Rakoczy. "[I]t's tough, if not impossible, to teach an employee to act intelligently, adopt a positive attitude, or possess a strong work ethic," she writes. If you decide it's necessary to fire a new employee, make sure you are in compliance with state and federal laws, and keep records that illustrate why that decision was necessary.
