France approves embryonic stem cell research

The government plans to allow regulated scientific studies on embryonic human stem cells to find new therapies for disease and genetic disorders, but stresses human cloning remains off-limits. Given a five-year window for the research, scientists would work with 5- to 6-day-old stem cells from embryos not intended for live birth.
