Kerry promises funding for embryonic stem cell research

Saying President George W. Bush "is making the wrong choice to sacrifice science for extreme right-wing ideology," Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry told a New Hampshire audience he would dedicate $100 million a year in federal money to support the research. He also promised the controversial research would be given stringent ethical monitoring. Bush did not altogether ban stem cell research, according to his campaign spokesman, who also said, "Stem-cell research of any kind is perfectly legal."
