Discounter Ryanair bids for Aer Lingus

European budget carrier Ryanair today launched a bid for Aer Lingus that valued the airline at $1.9 billion. The Irish government immediately refused to sell its remaining stake in the carrier. Ryanair said it already owns 16% of Aer Lingus.
