Senate committee approves new tax bill

The Senate Finance Committee has approved a $16 billion tax bill to finance a disaster aid program for farmers and ranchers. The bill lowers tax credit for ethanol and allows landowners to ask for tax credits when they enroll in the Conservation Reserve Program. It also frees up money for use by the Agriculture Committee and marks the Senate's first step toward a new farm subsidy law.
