General aviation contributes more than many realize

Facing tough economic times and harsh public criticism, general aviation companies such as the Titletown Jet Centre at Austin Straubel International Airport in Wisconsin are defending the industry's importance to communities. Al Timmerman, the company's owner, said average residents may not realize how general aviation contributes to a region's commerce: "People look at general aviation as the rich guy going out and flying his airplane, but it's so much more than that, it's the air ambulance, search and rescue," he said.
