Robert Greifeld, CEO of Nasdaq OMX Group, said the Securities and Exchange Commission likely will focus on dark pools, which some industry insiders said make markets opaque. "You'll see some movement on dark pools," Greifeld said. He said there are reasons for markets "not to be transparent," but "if you're not adding value that the transparent market doesn't provide, then you're free-riding." The SEC is assessing a range of market issues, including dark pools and high-frequency trading.
