Nearly 1 in 5 construction workers are out of a job

Employment in architectural and engineering services has increased for the first time in more than a year, writes Ken Simonson, chief economist of the Associated General Contractors of America. However, that ray of good news was overshadowed by a decrease in average hourly earnings for construction workers and a 17.1% unemployment rate in that industry -- up from 9.9% a year ago.
