Preschool program helps children of all abilities prepare for kindergarten

A school district in Texas has expanded a program that pairs pre-kindergarten students with special needs with their peers without disabilities. The goal of the program, which was introduced last year, is to prepare all the students for enrollment in mainstream kindergarten classes. "Research has shown that children with special needs do not gain knowledge as quickly in self-contained classes as they do when they are with their peers," said one teacher.
