Rhee is criticized as fired D.C. teachers get community support

Elected officials, students and parents are calling on Washington, D.C., Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee to justify her decision to fire about 400 staff members, including nearly 230 teachers. McKinley Technical High School students led a march Monday from their school to the school system office where Rhee works, protesting the decision to fire 15 staffers at their school. Rhee has said the cuts were necessary for budgetary reasons, but critics say Rhee used the budget as an excuse to accomplish a longtime goal of replacing teachers.
