Small-business owners need to have a "sales mindset" to propel the growth of their companies because word-of-mouth will not do the job alone, writes Jerry Carter, CEO of Carter & Consultants in Hoboken, N.J. "Think about it: Would you buy from or work for a person who isn't able to promote their own business at networking events or on sales calls?" Carter asks.
