Videotaping educators will be part of research on effective teaching

A researcher connected with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is looking for 1,000 teachers in Memphis, Tenn., willing to have their teaching observed and videotaped to help determine best-teaching practices. A spokesman for the Gates Foundation said several sites, including Memphis, are being considered for the project and that "the videos will be one aspect of evaluating what the teacher does in the classroom. The goal is to come up with new measures of what is effective."
