Analysts say that an overhaul of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is part of a broader makeover of the "entire housing finance system," according to conversations they had with congressional staffers. The analysts predict a larger role for the private market in housing finance if Republicans take control of the House. Also, the Treasury Department is poised to reveal its plan for reforming Fannie and Freddie toward the end of the year.
