Pets need year-round heartworm preventative treatments

Pet owners should continue to give their animals preventative treatments, such as heartworm medication, year-round, and flea and tick treatments should be given through the end of November and restarted in March. "First of all heartworm is a deadly disease ... and the cost of a monthly chewable tablet, even in the winter time, is far exceeded by the cost of treatment [or] in the loss of a pet," said a veterinarian in Wisconsin.
