3-item test may help ID people at risk of type 2 diabetes

Using a new and simplified three-item test that evaluates age, family history and obesity may help accurately identify people who face a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes, a study revealed. Researchers surveyed 22,001 U.S. adults and found that those who were 55 years and older, were obese and had family histories of diabetes had a 19.9% greater risk of developing the disease over the next five years. The findings were presented at the Obesity Society meeting.
