Acer sets laptop-type price of $799 for Windows 8 tablet

Acer sees its upcoming Iconia W700 Windows 8-powered tablet -- featuring an Intel Core processor -- as a laptop replacement device that will sell for $799 when it goes on sale Oct. 26. The tablet, which will compete with Microsoft's Surface, will feature an 11.6-inch screen, 10 hours of battery life and a 1,920-by-1,080-pixel resolution. Also on the tablet front, Sony recalled its Xperia computer one month after its debut due to potential water damage on a machine touted as being water resistant.
