Transit security measures could mean billions in upgrades

The Senate voted to allocate $1.1 billion for safety and security improvements for railroads and $3.5 billion for transit improvements, though the final version of the legislation is likely to reduce those dollar amounts. A $2.4 billion portion of the transit allocation would go toward capital improvements, and $662 million of the rail funds would pay for safety improvements to Amtrak tunnels.
