GOP mulls spending cuts

The Budget Committee chairman wants to cut spending in the 2006 budget by $20 billion, which would include a 2% across-the-board reduction in discretionary spending to offset hurricane disaster relief efforts. While House Republicans are on board with reducing spending, Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, Ill., has not directly endorsed specific cut proposals.
