Obituary: Father advocated greater independence

After Steve Melesko's youngest son was born with Down syndrome, Melesko advocated for greater independence and better education for children and adults with developmental disabilities until his death earlier this year. "He was involved long before his son needed services," said Joe Drexler, of Connecticut's Department of Developmental Services. "His concerns were always broader than how his family needed services."
