Chicago attracts United operations center with $35.8M in incentives

Under a plan approved Monday by a Chicago City Council panel, United Airlines will receive $35.8 million in city incentives in exchange for agreeing to employ 2,500 workers for 10 years at downtown's landmark Willis Tower. Much of the money will go toward renovating 400,000 square feet of office space in the former Sears Tower, while $1.5 million will be earmarked for job training. The airline needed additional space after deciding to bring more of its operations under one roof.
