Daily Economic Indicator: Service companies beat expectations

A more rapid expansion than expected among service companies suggests that the economic recovery is accelerating. The Institute for Supply Management's index of nonmanufacturing businesses increased from 51.5 in August to 53.2 in September, signaling faster growth. Estimates by economists ranged between 50 and 53.3.
