EU project seeks microbes for biomass-to-fuel process

EU-funded consortium DISCO is looking for microorganisms that are able to break down lignocellulosic biomass into fermentable sugars that are needed for biofuel production. "We're looking to nature to find answers to the problem of efficiently generating next-generation biofuels from renewable sources, in this case from abundant waste materials from farming and industry," says Kristiina Kruus, an enzymes expert.
