International travel boosts American to 5.6% traffic increase

September traffic rose 5.6% at American Airlines, led by a 12.2% increase on international routes, which account for about 40% of the carrier's business. American said it increased capacity by 4.8% for the month as occupancy hit 80.1%, an increase of just over half a percentage point. Meanwhile, at commuter affiliate American Eagle, September traffic soared 17.3%, far outpacing a 12.3% boost in capacity.
