Traffic woes threaten $1B Defense Department project

As part of its Base Closure and Realignment Commission plan, the Defense Department is spending $1 billion on a 1.4 million-square-foot office facility that is expected to employ 6,400 by next fall. The problem: The structure in Northern Virginia is not easily accessible to public transit, and critics say area roadways can't handle the onslaught of commuter traffic.
