CIOs ask for alignment of EHR quality reporting programs

The CMS should harmonize its EHR programs for reporting inpatient quality, readmission reduction and value-based purchasing to ease the regulatory strain on providers, CIOs and other industry leaders told members of the HIT Policy Committee meaningful use work group at a recent meeting. "We would like meaningful use quality measures to align with other initiatives, so that duplicate initiatives and reporting were not necessary," said Thomas Smith, CIO at Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University HealthSystem.
