Treatment reduces mortality in flu patients with respiratory distress

Hospital mortality rates were 55% lower among patients with H1N1 flu who had severe acute respiratory distress syndrome and received extracorporeal membrane oxygenation compared with those who did not receive the oxygenation treatment, according to a U.K. study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
