Calif. ACO's first year sees significant quality improvements

An accountable care organization in Stanislaus County, Calif., that covers approximately 8,000 Blue Cross HMO participants saw marked improvements on four quality benchmarks in its first year, including declines in hospital admissions and visits to the emergency department. Blue Shield of California, AllCare Independent Physician Association and Doctors Medical Center introduced the ACO in 2012.
