Clean Line to prioritize HVDC projects to the east

Clean Line Energy Partners is making its three eastward-running high-voltage direct-current transmission-line projects a priority over its two westward-running projects, amid expectations of major changes in the western renewable-energy markets, particularly California, said Michael Skelly, the group's founder and president. California will likely need to import renewable energy if it exceeds its in-state requirement, Skelly said. "[I]t's fair to say, what California is finding and what other states have found, is a geographic diversity of resources is a good thing, and technology diversity is also a good thing," Skelly said.
