Economists see steady U.S. hiring in absence of September jobs report

Although the partial closure of the U.S. federal government prevented release of September's unemployment figures, economists estimate the recent modest gain in hiring probably extended into the latest month. Their estimate is based partly on the widely watched private ADP report. "Despite a ho-hum ADP payroll report for September, which has likely been the main focus of market participants in lieu of the actual jobs report, the data on balance suggest a firming in payroll growth," RDQ Economics analysts said.
