Officials see progress toward "future of nursing" goals

Although more needs to be done, the nursing profession has made progress toward goals set in the landmark 2010 report "The Future of Nursing," according to Dr. Harvey Fineberg, president of the Institute of Medicine, which wrote the report, and Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, head of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which supported it. For example, 43 state coalitions have worked to remove scope-of-practice limits on nurse practitioners, and the proportion of employed nurses with BSNs or higher degrees reached 50% in 2011.
