Ultrasound elastography useful in thyroid tumor evaluation

Ultrasound elastographic studies were useful in identifying malignant thyroid tumors, even when autoimmmune thyroid disease was also present, according to a recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. Although more studies are needed, the researchers suggest that ultrasound elastographic strain index values could replace biopsies in some thyroid nodules.
