New York students post math gains

New York students' math test scores continued to climb for the third straight year, an improvement state officials attributed to better alignment of district curricula with state standards. Still, problems persisted at the middle school level, where about 43% of eighth graders statewide and almost 60% of eighth graders in New York City failed to achieve proficiency.
