School closures leave hundreds of Head Start children in the lurch

The Detroit Public Schools system has been unable to find space for about 800 preschoolers this year, following its closure of 30 schools last summer due to budget cuts. The city has asked the federal government to reduce its Head Start rolls by 800 slots until it can find enough facilities for the children.
